It was a beautiful misty start to the day, quickly burnt off by the sun. The alpacas always seem to know when it's going to make a dramatic photo and pose accordingly!

Shooting season is in full swing on the Mountgarret Estate round here. As a result we get quite a number of the more intelligent pheasants hanging out in our field. This one had come right up to the house. Admittedly they're not the brightest of birds but at least this one was out of harms way for today at least!
Perfect cure for the winter blues and only a 10 minute drive away (or delivered to the door on our local 36 bus)-have a session at the amazing Harrogate Turkish Baths. Resurface warm, cleansed and relaxed. A short climb up Parliament Street will bring you to Betty's tea rooms where you can treat yourself to a lovely meal or afternoon tea. Then return to your perfect retreat at Shepherd's Delight for a wonderful nights sleep. Sounds good doesn't it?
We always have quite a few Red Kites in our village but today there were five of them all circling us as Shadow (my beagle) and I were walking across a very open field. Beautiful to see them all up close but I do have to say it was quite intimidating to have them swooping around us! I know they only eat carrion and don't actually attack but I can see why, in the past, farmers used to think they were after their livestock-they certainly look like they're on the prowl! Good to see so many of them thriving in the British countryside since their reintroduction not that long ago. They seem to be doing really well and it's wonderful to have them around-they certainly keep our field clean and tidy!
Big thanks to my brother-in-law who kindly sorted my logo to make it now look fantastic on my site! My son Miles designed the "Shepherd's Delight" logo while doing work experience with Christian a while back when the idea of using the hut as a holiday let was in it's fledgling state. The design itself is fantastic and now looks even better with it's transparent back and the sunset colours tweaked so you can see them on the black background (which I really didn't want to give up!) Fantastic work & always good to keep it in the family!
The hut is a lovely place to spend even the worst weather winter days-as a lot of my recent guests can confirm! Shepherd's Delight has a special winter offer to take advantage of this. Book 2 nights in January or February and get the 2nd night half price. Book today for a real escape from it, beat the winter blues and blow away the cobwebs!
Just got the hut ready for my fourth guests this week! Fire's lit ready for their arrival. It's so cosy up there in this kind of January wet & windy weather.
Just wanted to say a Happy New Year to all our past and future guests. Shepherd's Delight is still in it's early days but I am loving meeting all our lovely guests. I think it's a very special place to stay and am thankful that it's attracting some special people to stay in it.
So wishing you all a fantastic 2014 and hope to see you again soon! It was a beautiful star filled New Year's Eve and it was great to see our guests had the flaming torches lit up in the woodland. They were twinkling through the trees and we could see them from afar as we trotted off to the pub with some of our friends in the village. |
